Bathroom refinishing is often left til last when it comes to do it yourself refinishing, but that isn’t always the best idea. After all, the small space makes the bathroom an ideal experimental place for all kinds of DIY techniques, including cabinet resurfacing, tile laying, and painting techniques.
Whether you are looking at wood refinishing on an older bathroom or replacing tiles, nearly all bathrooms are small enough that you should be able to finish up fairly quickly. Rather than start in on kitchen DIY refinishing, which can take months and occupies an area where you will spend much of your time, cabinet, counter and floor refinishing can be done rapidly in a tiny bathroom. You’ll feel more confident starting a larger project and you will have the satisfaction of having transformed a room already.
There are some things that you won’t be able to change easily, such as the position of the toilet, sink and shower or tub. However, there are still lots of smaller changes to make. For example, cabinet resurfacing can drastically change a room, as can painting the walls a different color or style. Do it yourself refinishing of the floors and tiles can also make a big difference, even if you are just changing the color of the grout. When it comes to bathroom refinishing, just about everything will make a big statement, so take your time making decisions. Practice your DIY techniques on the bathroom and you’ll be ready to go with the other rooms in your home.
