Diy refinishing-tips painting

Last week I had a situation where the customer was concerned about Interior wall painting of his kitchen wall which was wallpapered. The wallpaper itself wasn’t in bad condition at all. It had no tears in it. It was just simply out of date with the times. He wanted to know how much it cost to remove the wallpaper and if it was a big job? I told him that there was much sense in removing wallpaper since it was on there very well and didn’t have any damages to it. I suggested to him painting over wallpaper , first of all prime it down and seal it with oil primer. (This would keep it from bubbling when painting it over with latex paints) then I would plaster any defects on the wall which weren’t many except some of the seams were little bit open, so I ran a bead of plaster over the seams. When all was dry I was sanded the fresh  dried plaster smooth. I would spot primed the fresh plaster repairs. Then  it was ready  for painting over wallpaper like normal. Sometimes it’s more economical in time and effort to just simply secure the wallpaper that is already on the wall.

Now that I have a wall that is in excellent condition I can choose either to paint with latex or oil based paints. Generally though these days 90% of all walls are painted with latex paints. You can get very durable latex paints in: starting from flat finish to gloss paint finishes. Flat paint finishes are more susceptible to smudging and getting dirty. The glossier the paint finish is the less easy it is to get stained from either dirt or smudges. Glossier paints are generally used in kitchens and bathrooms and sometimes in higher traffic always.

Flat paints and eggshell paints  (latex) are commonly used in most houses for interior wall painting. Flat paints are used in bedrooms, living rooms, dens, dining rooms.

Eggshell paints are generally used in bathrooms, hallways, boardrooms.

Semigloss paints are generally used in also bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, and is normally used on your doors and windows and baseboards.
